When you think of white dresses I would bet that only a few very special ones come to mind. For some people it may be their wedding dress, or perhaps the flower girl dresses that their daughters wore but there are two dresses that are recognizable to millions of people around the world. Lady Di’s wedding dress and Marilyn’s Monroe’s halter dress are possibly the two most famous dresses in the world.

When Lady Diana married Prince Charles it seemed like the whole world was watching. Everyone wanted to see the new princess in her wedding dress. Lady Di’s beautiful white wedding dress was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. They had created a blouse that Diana liked and so she went to see them about making the whole dress. The famous wedding played on television around the world. To this day clips of the event can be seen on the anniversary of Lady Di’s death, making the wedding dress that she wore one of the most famous dresses ever made.

Marilyn Monroe was one of the most famous actresses in the United States for years as well as being a model and one of the very first sex symbols. The most famous photo ever taken of their famous woman is without a doubt Cecil Beaton’s photo of Marilyn Monroe in that white dress. The picture was taken during the filming of The Seven Year Itch. Since Marilyn Monroe passed away the white halter dress has become a very popular Halloween costume and that famous picture can be seen all over the world.

Millions of other women have worn millions of other white dresses, and yet, these two seem to have a special place in our hearts. It seems very likely that these two women and their famous white dresses will still be remembered for decades to come.

White dresses have become a fashion statement that is here to stay. Many different people choose these dresses to wear for many different occasions. A white dress may be worn for a formal occasion such as a wedding or other occasions such as a school ball or even in a business environment. With cheap manufacturing coming from many countries, dress options are now abundant and can be purchased relatively easily through retail and online stores.

With so many famous people and everyday people wearing white dresses still, the color and the style of these kinds of dresses will never go away.
